Work Health and Safety Regulations Queensland Australia designated asbestos as a hazardous substance. This means asbestos can only be removed by companies licensed and comply with Work Health and Safety Regulations Queensland to carry out the work, and the removal is carried out by tradesmen who have attended and passed specific training.
Sykes Roofing fully complies with Queensland Legislation and, as such, is licenced to carry out any work regarding asbestos. Please refer to the Queensland Legislation website for up-to-date regulations involving asbestos and/or Hazardous construction work.
All asbestos sheeting is removed according to the law as stated by Work Health and Safety Regulation 2011. Using special protective clothing and methods, sheeting is sealed and disposed of safely, at an approved tip site, all under Work Health and Safety Queensland specifications.
Once the asbestos is removed and the ceilings are vacuumed, new long-run sheets of Corrugated Zincalume or Colorbond are fitted to the existing frame.
Fibro asbestos is a fibrous mineral used extensively in the building industry prior to 1990. Commonly found in the pipes, roofs and insulation of older structures and homes, fibro asbestos has been shown to cause serious forms of cancer and other illnesses.
